i’m always working hard on new design techniques. this is a teaser of a the wedding & event networks presentation of soleil: the wedding event september 25th.

this design is a series blends and circles and gradients. i then make a few ‘magic clicks’ and it all looks like a brilliant set of paint strokes. accuracy within inaccuracy. having lots of fun with this – the final pieces will be out soon!

If you want a quick look at the steps followed in photoshop, then

the short of it:

step 1) took a multi-toned monochromatic yellow image and applied filter, distort, twirl

step 2) duplicated that layer and applied gaussian blur to taste and set opacity to 75% to soften the original twirl

step 3) filled a new layer with a darker orange on the 4 corners applied filter, distort, spherize to get a tighter ring

step 4) repeated step 3 but made it a larger size as to get the banding effect

step 5) once i got the desired ‘sun’ circles, i flattened it all and sharpened it about 375% making it look like paint strokes

step 6) i then paneled a few layers of yellow, screened them and offset

having the opportunity to do what I love (business + strategy + design) and to work with these clients has been a life (and career) changing experience.

i have had the pleasure to help with one of their most valued assets - their businesses! together we have taken their web sites far beyond what they even thought was possible. to me, all of this speaks volumes especially since so many of my accounts are referrals.

many of these people have gone from great clients to dear friends. not only do i frequently dine & entertain with them, play with their kids, take vacations with them and i have even been to a few of their weddings!
